Dr Clementine Chawane

After completing her BSc degree in Physiology and Biochemistry at MEDUNSA in 2003, Dr Clementine Chawane went on to obtain her medical degree from the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine in KwaZulu Natal. Following graduation in 2008, Dr Chawane worked at Mankweng Hospital in Pietersburg for the duration of her internship year. For her community service, she then moved to Sheshego Hospital.

With her passion for mental health and wellbeing, Dr Chawane then returned to Mankweng Hospital in 2012, this time working as a Medical Officer in the Psychiatry department. After a year in this position, in order to expand her growth and experience in the field, she relocated to Krugersdorp and began working at Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital in 2013 as a Medical Officer.

It was in 2014 that she then joined the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital as a registrar through the University of the Witwatersrand. Finally with her qualification through the Fellowship of the College of Psychiatrists of South Africa (FC Psych SA) in 2018, Dr Clementine Chawane is a tender-hearted and empathetic psychiatrist with a passion for enriching the mental well-being of those with personality, substance use disorder, neurocognitive, eating, psychotic, anxiety, mood and related disorders. She has a particular interest in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry including ADHD, Suicidality, Mood dysregulation, Behavioral Problems.

With her psychotherapy based therapeutic approach as well as her patient-centred focus, Dr Chawane prioritises working alongside her patients to enhance their quality of life and uplift them towards reaching their full potential.
